Tough Dog Toys Tough Dogs Love

Not all tough dogs are big dogs: that's certain! We probably all remember some yapping little Pekinese dog or a Chihuahua that wouldn't stop barking at us. But big dogs, even gentle ones, have bigger teeth and more powerful jaws, so big dogs require tough dog toys.

This means you shouldn't invest heavily in the stuffed animal toys so popular with pet owners today. They just won't last. Even if you are prepared to invest heavily in the stuffed animal market and buy your big dog a new little friend to chew up every day, it's not good for your dog. If your dog can chew up his "friend," he can chew up the squeaker box inside his "friend." If he chews up his "friend," it's almost certain he will eat some of its filling. While some fillings may not kill your pet, none of them are any good for him. A dog should get his fiber from something besides a stuffed animal!

So make your dog happy and keep him healthy by providing toys that will last. Rope toys are usually pretty strong, and there are some really excellent toys made of long lasting rubber, nylon, or synthetics that will last for years. Make sure you don't confuse tough with hard, though. You don't want toys that will damage your pet's teeth or gums!

Tough dogs are never too tough to play, so go get some toys that are appropriate. And like buying toys for a child, never buy toys with small, hard parts or sharp edges. After all, even tough dog toys are still meant for play.
