Grab the toothbrush for good Pet Dental Care!
Pet dental care should be taken as serious as you do your own dental care.
Less than 5% of pet owners brush their dogs or cats teeth, and less than 10%
take their pets for the veterinarian for a dental checkup. When you schedule the
annual checkup for your pet, be sure and also schedule a pet dental care checkup
into the mix.
Prevention is the key to successful pet dental care. If you let it go, it will
lead to conditions far worse than simply bad breath. Periodontal disease affects
dogs and cats just like humans, which also includes plaque, gingivitis and the
loosening of teeth.
Grab your toothbrush for dental care
Training your dog or cat for regular pet dental care can be difficult. It is
best to start young, but it can still take 3 to 6 months for them to get used to
it. There are special toothbrushes available for you pet, but there is nothing
wrong with using a normal tooth brush.
You must NOT use a toothpaste designed for humans - it contains fluoride that is
intended to be spit out. Pets are not able to spit this out. Special pet
toothpaste is available at most pet shops. So three things are required for pet
dental care - a toothbrush, pet toothpaste, and a good attitude!
