Today Dog Cataracts can be corrected with eye surgery

If your dog has cataracts, it might be time to purchase a good dog health insurance plan.   As dogs age cataracts develop just like in humans.   Now the technology is available to have the cataracts corrected, but it is expensive.

If you notice that your dogs eyes look foggy or hazy, it might be an indication of cataracts.   Typically your dog might also start bumping into things as they walk, or just act like they are having trouble seeing in general.   If you have a dog insurance policy, the decision to have them corrected might be much easier.

The surgery can cost from $1,500 to $3,000 and typically will require several days stay at the veterinary hospital.   This is where the costs can really add up, and the dog insurance policy can really help.

It is okay to not fix your dog's cataracts

While it is not inhumane to not treat your dogs cataracts, if you love your dog this will be a hard decision to make.   So from a financial stand-point dog insurance can really make sense.

Most of the time cataract surgery for dogs is performed at a veterinary school of medicine, but there are many specialists in the larger cities that can also perform the surgery.   Just be sure you have a full understanding of the costs and recover period involved before proceeding.   If you have a health insurance policy for your dog be sure and read what it covers was well.
